The Eniac Team

*** CHIEF OF STAFF POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED ***

Eniac Ventures was founded in 2009 by experienced startup operators committed to founder-friendly practices. The firm works closely with entrepreneurs to accelerate product-market fit and provide support in customer discovery, business development, product, recruiting, and capital raising. With a dedicated team of 12, Eniac provides unprecedented access to domain experts and senior executives across the Fortune 5000, bringing empathy, expertise, and hands-on experience to its portfolio companies. Eniac has funded over 250 startups to date, including notable investments in 1up Health, Alloy, Anchor, Attentive, Brightwheel, Embrace, Ghost, Hinge, Hive, Level.ai, Maestro, Owlet, and Vungle. In April 2024, the firm announced two new funds totaling $220M ($160M Fund VI and a $60M Eniac Select Fund I), aimed at leading seed rounds and continuing to back portfolio companies through the early growth stage, with a sector-agnostic focus.

Chief of Staff — Position Overview

The position is based at our NYC headquarters in Soho, offering a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with our co-founder, Hadley Harris. We are looking for a team member with a balance of hustle, passion for learning, and exceptional organizational and communication skills — someone who is ready to play a key role in serving the founders we work with, as well as the broader startup community.

This role provides a front-row seat to the ins-and-outs of running a VC firm, and will involve all functions of venture capital including working with our portfolio companies, vetting inbound opportunities, conducting diligence, and firm management. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker who is organized, thoughtful and has sharp execution skills. We welcome those of diverse backgrounds to apply. Prior experience in analytical and strategic roles — investment banking, private equity, hedge fund, consulting, or experience at a high growth startup — are examples of profiles that we think would be a great fit for this role.

We expect this to be a 2-year position, which will give candidates an in-depth introduction to VC and critical exposure to all elements of the business.

Specific Responsibilities

The Chief of Staff will work closely with Hadley Harris on all aspects of venture capital, including:

  • Managing and tracking new investment opportunities
  • Performing market research and due diligence for potential investments including market analysis, product testing, and generating industry landscapes
  • Organizing and communicating with sources of deal flow across the startup ecosystem
  • Helping Hadley support Eniac portfolio companies by facilitating their connections with Eniac’s array of portfolio support and community resources
  • Helping Hadley vet and manage opportunities including helping him manage inbound deal flow in his email inbox
  • Initiating and leading special projects (building internal products and programs, research deep dives)

About Hadley

Hadley is a co-founder and General Partner at Eniac Ventures, where his investment areas include AI (application and tooling layers), data/dev tooling, SaaS, and healthcare. He also takes the lead on developing the firm’s long-term strategy.

Before becoming a VC himself, Hadley built two successful, VC-backed startups. He joined Vlingo in 2007, working with talented AI founders out of MIT to manage aspects of the business across product, strategy, and marketing, until the company was sold to Nuance for $225M. He then became Chief Business Officer at Thumb, a real-time recommendation app that reached user engagement levels second only to Facebook and was ultimately acquired by YPulse.

He began his career as a developer and engineering team lead at Pegasystems, later taking on roles as a product manager at Microsoft and strategist at Samsung (where he realized that big company life isn’t for him).

Hadley grew up in downtown Boston, where he started his first company Beantown Odd Jobs at the age of 13 (ask him about the marketing campaign that involved fake parking tickets!). He now lives in New York City with his wife and sons, and outside the office, he enjoys yoga, meditation, mixing music, and beating Nihal in tennis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • We’re looking for a self-starter who is scrappy and isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves
  • Extremely well organized — you are quick to follow up and are comfortable with juggling multiple projects without ever dropping the ball
  • Low ego — you treat menial, administrative tasks with the same attitude/intensity as high-priority deal-related work streams
  • Strong writing skills with a focus on the ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Strong interest in learning more about the venture capital and the startup ecosystem
  • ~2 years of prior experience, preferably from within investment banking, private equity, hedge fund, consulting, or tech
  • BA / BS degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S

Benefits

  • Salary Range: $100k-130k per year (leveling based on experience)
  • Health benefits — a fully covered medical plan (dental and vision)
  • 401k matching
  • Home internet and phone reimbursement
  • Flexible time off

We expect a tremendous amount from our Chief of Staff. It is an intense job, but we know it will be one of the most rewarding positions and opportunities to get started in the venture capital business.
